How Modus & Mood works

Short films on the things that make shopping here easier: choosing, gifting, sets, sizes and how our pieces are made. Each one takes about a minute.

How it works

Help me choose

Can't decide? Tap the heart on the pieces you like, tick two to four on your wishlist and send one link on WhatsApp. Friends tap the one they like, with no sign-in, you see the votes as they land, and the favourite goes into your tote in one tap.

Three kettles. One Diwali gift. And a family group chat with twelve opinions.

There's a simpler way to settle it.

On Modus & Mood, tap the heart on the pieces you're torn between.

Then open your wishlist, tap "Can't decide? Ask someone", tick two to four pieces, and get one link.

Send it on WhatsApp. Whoever opens it simply taps "This one". No sign-up. Nothing to type.

Open the same link and you see every vote as it lands, and which piece is leading. Then add the favourite to your tote in one tap.

Use it all festive season. The Diwali gift. The holiday outfit your travel group has to agree on. The plates for your guest table.

Your link stays open for 14 days. Enough time for even the slowest voter in the family.

Modus & Mood. Decide together.

How it works

Gifting, minus the awkward bits

Not sure what they'd like? The gift finder asks five quick questions about them and a budget, then picks three pieces. In your tote, switch on "Is this a gift?": we print your note on a card and leave the invoice out, so the price never shows. The note is free and gift wrap is ₹350. Enter their address at checkout and we deliver it free, straight to them.

Buying a gift should feel good. It's the bits around it that get awkward.

Not sure what they'd like? Open the Gift finder. Answer five quick questions about them, then pick a budget. It works out their mood, and picks three pieces that suit them.

Now, the awkward bits. In your tote, switch on "Is this a gift?" Add a note, and we print it on a card. We leave the invoice out of the parcel, so the price never shows. The note is free.

Want it wrapped? Add gift wrap for ₹350.

Then at checkout, enter their address as the delivery address. Delivery is free, with no minimum.

Modus & Mood. Send it straight to them.

How it works

Never forget a date

Tap "Remind me before a date" on our Gifting page, pick the occasion, add a nickname like Mum, set the day and month, and leave your email or mobile number. A reminder with gift ideas arrives ten days before, on WhatsApp or by email, and one more four days before. Tick "Remind me every year" for birthdays and anniversaries.

A birthday. An anniversary. A housewarming. The dates that matter have a way of sneaking up on you.

On Modus & Mood, tap "Remind me before a date". You'll find it on our Gifting page.

Pick the occasion: a birthday, an anniversary, a housewarming, a festival, or anything else. Add a nickname, like Mum. We never ask for their details.

Set the day and the month, then leave your email or mobile number.

Ten days before the date, a reminder lands, with a few gift ideas. On WhatsApp if you gave a number, or by email.

Then one more nudge, four days before.

Tick "Remind me every year", and birthdays and anniversaries come round again on their own.

Save the dates that matter, once. Modus & Mood. Never forget a date.

Mix & Match: the maths of a set

Build your own set of cushion covers, mugs or hangings. Any two save 15%, any three 20% and any four 25%. Tap "Add to set" on the Mix & Match page and the saving applies in your tote. With our cushion covers alone, there are over a thousand different sets of three.

How many ways can you dress one sofa?

Start small. Four cushion covers, and a set of three. Any cover can go in, even the same one twice. List every set, and you find 20.

On a sofa, order doesn't matter. So the count is a combination with repeats: n plus two, choose three.

Now run it on our whole cushion range, and you get over a thousand different sets of three. That's the fun part.

Here's the useful part. Any two covers save 15%. Any three, 20%. Any four, 25%.

Open Mix & Match, choose your set, and tap "Add to set". The tray counts your picks and shows what you save. The discount applies in your tote. It works for mugs and hangings too.

Modus & Mood. Your sofa, your rules.

How it works

See it to scale

Photos fill the frame, so a planter and a mug can look the same size. On many product pages, tap "See it to scale" for a line drawing at true size next to something you know: an open hand, a dinner plate, a sheet of A4 or a dining chair. Mugs and cups also show how much they hold. The outline shows the size, not the exact form.

How big is it, really? It's the question every product photo leaves open.

Photos fill the frame, so a planter and a mug can look the same size.

So on many of our product pages, tap "See it to scale". You get a line drawing at true scale, next to something you know: an open hand, a dinner plate, a sheet of A4, a dining chair.

The Second Cup mug: 14.5 cm tall, beside a hand. The giraffe planter: 26 cm, almost as tall as a sheet of A4. The seashell wind chime: 65 cm, against a dining chair.

The outline shows the size, not the exact form. For mugs and cups, you also see how much they hold.

Modus & Mood. No more guessing.

How it works

Why no two nerikomi pieces are alike

Nerikomi is a Japanese ceramic technique. Coloured clays are stacked in layers, pressed into a block and sliced, so the pattern runs right through the clay: look inside, or at the unglazed foot. The slices are joined and shaped by hand, and because the block changes with every cut, no two pieces are ever the same. Our nerikomi planters, figurines, bowls, bells and wind chimes are made by hand in India.

Look closely at this elephant. The pattern isn't painted on.

Nerikomi is a Japanese ceramic technique. Coloured clays are stacked in layers, and pressed into a block. The block is sliced, and every slice carries the pattern right through it.

The slices are joined, and shaped by hand into the piece. So the pattern runs through the body of the clay, not just the surface. Check the unglazed foot or the inside, and it's there too.

And because the block changes shape with every cut, no two pieces can ever be exactly the same.

Our nerikomi planters, figurines, bowls, bells and wind chimes are made by hand in India.

Modus & Mood. One of a kind, all the way through.

How it works

How Pairs well with picks

Every piece is placed by its colours, materials, mood and the words that describe it, so similar styles sit close together. A match has to come from a category that complements it, and what people buy together is added on top, measured against chance so best sellers do not crowd everything out. Each piece keeps its best six matches, and the three you see change every day.

Read the script

Under each piece on our site, there's a row called "Pairs well with". So how do we pick it?

Every piece becomes a point. Its colours, materials, mood, and the words that describe it decide where it sits. Pieces with a similar style land close together.

But two mugs don't make a pair. So a match has to come from a category that complements it, like a planter and a plant stake.

Then we add what people actually buy together, measured against chance, so best sellers don't crowd out everything else.

Style, fit, and bought together. Every piece is scored against every other, every day. Each piece keeps its best six, and the row rotates, so the three you see are always three different kinds.

Modus & Mood. Suggestions from data, not a sales push.

How it works

Find your mood

Four moods run through everything we make: Curator, Social, Sanctuary and Ritual. Not sure which is yours? Five questions, about twenty seconds, then six pieces picked for your mood. No sign-up, nothing to type.

Four moods run through everything we make. Curator. Social. Sanctuary. Ritual.

Curator is for the things your eye chooses first. Social, for plans, people, and staying a little longer. Sanctuary, for quiet corners and nowhere to rush. Ritual, for the everyday things worth making special.

Not sure which one is you? Take the quiz. Five questions, about twenty seconds. Your ideal evening. What's on your table. Your shelf. Your weekend morning. The colours you reach for.

Every answer leans towards one mood. Count them up, and the strongest is yours, sometimes with a little of a second.

Then you get six pieces picked for your mood. No sign-up, nothing to type.

Tap "Find your mood" on our home page. Modus & Mood. Shop by mood.
