Diwali is on 8 November this year, and the gifts that survive it are the ones with a job. A jug that pours, a plate that carries the sweets, a mug someone reaches for on the morning after. The dry fruit box gets passed on. The decorative object goes in a cupboard. The thing that gets used stays in the house, and every time it is used the person remembers who gave it.

This guide is built around that one rule, and around what is actually in our studio right now. Everything below is handmade in small batches, so where we quote a price it is the price today, and where we say a colour is available we mean this week rather than the week before Diwali.

When to order

Dhanteras falls on 6 November, two days before Diwali on 8 November, and most households buy their gifts in the fortnight before that. Ours are made in runs of a few pieces at a time, which is why no two are identical and also why the colour you want in October may not be there in November. If you have a specific piece in mind, order it in October. Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum, so there is no reason to wait and bundle.

Start with the budget

Almost every Diwali list has three tiers on it: the many small gifts for neighbours, colleagues and the extended family, the handful of proper gifts for close family and the people who hosted you, and one or two pieces for the person you actually want to impress. We have written a separate guide for each budget, so this page stays short and sends you where you need to go.

Under ₹1,000: the long list

This is most of what we make, and it is where handmade earns its keep. A hand-painted stripe plate at ₹599, a wool-felt owl at ₹499, a pair of anti-tarnish studs at ₹599. None of it looks like the price, because the variation in a hand-painted line reads as care rather than cost. The full list, sorted by exact price and by who it suits, is in Diwali gifts under ₹1,000. Or go straight to the collection.

Under ₹1,500: the gift that does not look like a budget

Between ₹1,000 and ₹1,500 sit the bedside carafe and tumbler sets, the nerikomi figurines and bowls, the marigold cup and plate set and the pairs of smaller pieces that add up to one proper present. That band has its own guide: Diwali gifts under ₹1,500.

₹1,000 to 2,500: the proper gift

For the people who hosted you, the parents, the sibling on Bhai Dooj. This is where the carafe and tumbler sets live, the nerikomi planters and figurines, the fluted salad bowl, the kettle. Objects with enough presence to be the centre of a table. That guide is Diwali gifts under ₹2,500, and the collection holds everything in the band.

The one statement piece

Above ₹2,500 we make very little on purpose, and what we do make is nerikomi. The seashell wind chimes in red and blue, and the large seashell chime, all at ₹4,999, are the largest pieces in the studio: a run of marbled ceramic shells strung so that they move in a draught and knock softly. The pattern is not painted on. It runs through the clay, made by layering coloured clays and cutting through them, which is why each shell is different from the one beside it. If you want to understand what you are giving, our nerikomi guide explains the technique and why no two pieces are alike explains the variation.

Then match the person

The host. They will feed twenty people in the week of Diwali and they are short of serving pieces, not decorations. An oval snacks plate at ₹599 carries the mithai. The nesting triangle serving dish at ₹699 does chivda, then nuts, then whatever is left. A jug at ₹699 or ₹799 gets used at every meal. If you want to go further, the fluted salad bowl at ₹1,999 is the piece most hosts do not own and most need. Our guide to table settings covers how these sit together.

The parents. Tea, in a form that feels like an occasion. The Gulabi heart cup and saucer at ₹899, the marigold cup and plate set at ₹999, or the Chai Hour cane-handle kettle at ₹1,999, hand-painted in pink tile, yellow tile, sky daisy or blue floral, which is the piece we would give our own mother.

The sibling, for Bhai Dooj. Bhai Dooj is two days after Diwali, and the gift is usually smaller and more personal than a Diwali gift. A hand-painted mug in their colour at ₹499. A nerikomi figurine at ₹1,499 if they collect things. For a sister, a pair of anti-tarnish hoops at ₹799 or the beaded statement earrings at ₹599, which come in flamingo, watermelon and rainbow and are made by hand from glass beads.

The colleague, and the office list. Repeatable, packable, and it must not look like a bulk order. Mugs, trinket dishes, coasters and plates all work at volume because every one in a run is slightly different, so ten people do not receive the same object. We have written the whole approach up in corporate Diwali gifting that does not feel corporate, including how to order a quantity.

The new home. A Diwali that is also a housewarming. Give something for the table rather than the wall, since they may not be able to drill and they definitely do not have enough plates. Our housewarming guide has the full logic.

The person who has everything. Nerikomi. Specifically a figurine: the reclining cat at ₹1,499, the little elephant, the spotted dog, the owl at ₹1,799. They are small enough to sit on a desk, and because the pattern runs through the clay nobody else will own the same one.

The children. Wool felt. The embroidered elephants at ₹499 come in rust, red and black and coral, and there is a giraffe, a sheep, a zebra and a floppy-eared dog. They are soft, they survive being dropped, and a felt owl or butterfly hanging at ₹499 to 699 needs a hook rather than a nail. Felt styling and gifting by season goes further.

The Diwali-specific pieces

A few things in the studio were not made for Diwali and turn out to be exactly right for it.

For the light. The Sun Orb glass incense stick stands at ₹899 come in pink and yellow, and they do the job a diya does at dusk without the open flame. The bell jar reed diffuser bottles at ₹899, in smoke grey and green, are the same idea for scent. Both are glass, both catch the lamplight, and both are still on the shelf in February.

For the marigolds. A bud vase. The Sunspot dotted mini vases at ₹399 hold three stems and a strand of genda, the Dil Se red heart vase at ₹399 is the one for a puja shelf, and the Leher striped vases at ₹899 take a proper bunch. Styling decorative glass covers the glass ones.

For the sweets. The oval snacks plates at ₹599 in blue meadow, marigold, sage green and palm print. The floral rim dinner plates at ₹899 for the box of mithai that arrives from someone else and needs a better home.

For the card game. Ribbed highball tumblers at ₹699, the two-tone coupe at ₹899, the twisted glass bell stirrer at ₹699. Enough to set up a small bar for the taash party. The home bar guide explains which glass does what.

A note on the imitation jewellery

Everything in this range is imitation jewellery: gold-toned plating over a brass base, with the anti-tarnish range plated to hold its colour longer. Most of it is priced between ₹599 and ₹799 and it is meant to be worn often rather than kept for occasions. Store it dry, put it on after perfume rather than before, and it will keep its finish. That is the honest description and it is the one we would want if we were buying. How to stop imitation jewellery tarnishing has the full care routine.

A note on the ceramics

Everything hand-painted is painted by a person, and the line wanders. Glaze pools where it pools. Two plates from the same run are cousins, not twins. That is not a flaw to apologise for, it is the reason the gift looks chosen rather than bought. Hand wash, keep them away from thermal shock, and they last for years. How to care for handmade ceramics has the detail, and it is worth passing on with the gift.

If you cannot decide

A gift card is more honest than a guess, particularly for someone whose taste you do not know. Otherwise, the safest single gift in the studio is a hand-painted plate at ₹599: useful, needs no matching, and there are enough colours that you can pick one for the person rather than for the house.

Common questions

When should I order Diwali gifts to arrive in time?

October. Diwali is 8 November 2026 and Dhanteras is 6 November. Allow up to 10 business days for delivery, and remember our pieces are made in small runs, so the colour you want is more likely to be there in October than in the first week of November.

Is shipping free?

Yes, on every order, with no minimum. There is no reason to bundle gifts into one order to reach a threshold.

What is a good Diwali gift under ₹1,000?

A hand-painted plate, a mug, a wool-felt animal, a bud vase or a pair of anti-tarnish earrings. We have a full guide sorted by exact price.

What is a good Diwali gift under ₹1,500?

A bedside glass carafe and tumbler set or a nerikomi figurine, both ₹1,499, or two smaller pieces such as a coaster pair and a ribbed glass highball. Our Diwali gifts under ₹1,500 guide has the full list.

What is a good Diwali gift for someone who has everything?

A nerikomi figurine. The pattern runs through the clay rather than sitting on the surface, so no two are the same and nobody else will have the one you give.

Are the ceramics dishwasher safe?

No, wash them by hand. Hand-painted and hand-glazed pieces last far longer washed by hand and kept away from sudden temperature changes. They are microwave safe unless they have metal parts.

Is the imitation jewellery real gold?

No. It is imitation jewellery, gold-toned plating over a brass base. We say so on every product page because it is the honest description and it is priced accordingly.

Can I order gifts for a whole office?

Yes. Mugs, plates, coasters and trinket dishes work well at volume. See our corporate gifting guide for how to approach it and how to order a quantity.

Do you gift wrap?

Yes. Add gift wrap in the tote for ₹350. You can also mark the order as a gift and add a note, which is free: we print it on a card and leave the invoice out, so the price is not shown.

Two plates from the same run are cousins, not twins.
