A quarter plate with a fine sepia floral around the rim, a plain centre and a thin dark edge line. The rim carries the pattern, the middle carries the food.

A fine sepia floral runs around the rim of this dinner plate and the centre is left plain, finished with a thin dark line at the edge. The border is painted freehand, so it never quite closes evenly where the brush came back to its start, and that small gap is how you know it was painted rather than transferred. Leaving the middle clear is the point of a rim pattern: the food is the picture, the plate is the frame. Fifteen centimetres, the quarter plate size.

Hand-thrown and hand-finished in small batches, so shape, glaze pooling and pattern vary a little piece to piece. That variation is the point, not a flaw.
