The cut-out is the design. A long oval passes clean through the middle of this flattened bottle, and the eye goes straight to the negative space. The small red and pink blooms painted across the cream body are almost an afterthought, in the best sense: sparse enough that they never compete with the shape. It reads as an object first, a vase second, and it genuinely holds water. Two or three stems through the neck and it becomes a small still life.
Hand-thrown and hand-finished in small batches, so shape, glaze pooling and pattern vary a little piece to piece. That variation is the point, not a flaw.
