Twenty-six centimetres of giraffe standing over an open bowl, dappled all over in soft brown markings that were worked into the clay rather than painted on. The neck and head are modelled entirely by hand, which is why the animal has a slightly quizzical tilt. It is tall enough to read as a small sculpture even when it is completely empty, which is how it will spend most of its life. When you do plant it, a trailing succulent looks best.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.
