Teal and ochre chevrons run down this standing cow pot, set into the clay, with a properly weighted base.
Teal and ochre chevrons run down the body of this cow, set into the clay in the nerikomi way so they cannot chip or wear off. It stands solidly on four feet with a properly weighted base, which is why it works on a work table: it takes a small plant, or holds brushes and pens upright without tipping. Twenty centimetres long, part of the Moo Mood herd of five, and one of the two zigzag colourways.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.

How it is made
The pattern is built into the clay
- Coloured clays are layered and laminated before the piece is formed, so the pattern runs through the clay
- Every piece is cut and formed by hand from that clay, so the banding is different on each one
- A batch takes about two to three weeks, from layering the clay to the final firing
No two are identical.

FAQs
Is it dishwasher or microwave safe?
Our ceramics are microwave safe unless they have metal components attached to them. They are not dishwasher safe, so hand wash them with a soft sponge and mild soap.
Why does my piece look different from the photo?
Each piece is made and finished by hand, so glaze, pattern and shape vary a little from one piece to the next. That variation is part of the handmade process, not a flaw.
How do I stop it cracking?
Avoid sudden changes in temperature and handle it gently. Our journal guide to caring for handmade ceramics covers washing, stains and storage in more detail.
Can I use it for food and drink?
Yes. Our mugs, cups, plates, bowls and serving pieces are made for everyday food and drink. Planters, vases, figurines and hanging pieces are decorative and not meant for food.
What is nerikomi?
Nerikomi is a Japanese technique in which coloured clays are layered, pressed and sliced, so the pattern runs right through the clay rather than being painted on the surface. That is why no two pieces come out exactly alike.
