Saffron and charcoal chevrons run right through the wall of this Hathi planter, laid up as coloured clay before the elephant was ever formed. Four stub feet, an open bowl where the back should be, and a face pinched out by hand at the front. It is the sunniest of the four Hathis and the one that warms a windowsill in a north-facing room. Holds a small plant or whatever a desk accumulates.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.
