Little Hathi Nerikomi Ceramic Elephant Figurine - Indigo
- Nerikomi spots that run through the clay, so they cannot chip or wear off
- Heavy for its size: satisfying in the hand, steady on a shelf
- One of a herd of three; the charcoal and golden ones are its siblings
- Hand-modelled, so the ears and trunk sit slightly differently on each
Mon-Fri: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (IST)
A palm-sized standing elephant in pale clay, wearing an indigo spotted blanket worked through the clay itself.
Hathi is the elephant, and this is the small one: palm-sized, ears folded forward, trunk curled in, wearing a blanket of indigo spots. The spots are nerikomi, which means the coloured clay was layered and sliced before the elephant was shaped, so the pattern runs through the body rather than sitting on it. It has real weight for its size, which is why it ends up being picked up and put down again all day by whoever passes the shelf.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.
