The face on this turtle is the detail: pinched out by hand and smiling, in a way that reads as content rather than cute. The shell is warm ochre dotted with blue octothorpes, worked into the clay before the animal was modelled so the pattern carries through the body. Small enough for a bedside table, solid enough to survive being picked up constantly, which it will be. Third of the four Kachhua turtles.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.
