Kachhua is the turtle, and this is a stout one: indigo shell scattered with small yellow hashtags, four dark feet planted firmly, and heavier than it looks because it is solid nerikomi clay all the way through. The hashtags were built into the clay one at a time before the turtle was formed. It sits low and flat, which is why it ends up holding down a stack of paper on someone's desk. One of a family of four that were plainly meant to travel together.
Nerikomi: the pattern is built through the clay before the piece is formed, and every piece is cut by hand, so no two are identical.

How it is made
The pattern is built into the clay
- Coloured clays are layered and laminated before the piece is formed, so the pattern runs through the clay
- Every piece is cut and formed by hand from that clay, so the banding is different on each one
- A batch takes about two to three weeks, from layering the clay to the final firing

Is it dishwasher or microwave safe?
Our ceramics are microwave safe unless they have metal components attached to them. They are not dishwasher safe, so hand wash them with a soft sponge and mild soap.
Why does my piece look different from the photo?
Each piece is made and finished by hand, so glaze, pattern and shape vary a little from one piece to the next. That variation is part of the handmade process, not a flaw.
How do I stop it cracking?

Can I use it for food and drink?
Yes. Our mugs, cups, plates, bowls and serving pieces are made for everyday food and drink. Planters, vases, figurines and hanging pieces are decorative and not meant for food.
What is nerikomi?
Nerikomi is a Japanese technique in which coloured clays are layered, pressed and sliced, so the pattern runs right through the clay rather than being painted on the surface. That is why no two pieces come out exactly alike.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are dispatched within 1 to 3 business days and then delivered in 3 to 7 business days. Orders placed after 2 PM IST are processed the next business day, and nothing is dispatched on weekends or public holidays.
Is delivery free, and where do you deliver?
Delivery is free on every order, with no minimum. We deliver to addresses in India only, and you can place the order from anywhere in the world.
Can I return it?
